Dentures are prosthetic devices that are used to replace missing teeth. Dentures are custom made using impressions of your mouth and offer a natural-looking solution that can improve your smile, quality of life, and self-confidence.
Also called full dentures, complete dentures are used when none of your natural teeth remain. Complete dentures are removable and come in two forms:
Used when only a few teeth are missing, partial dentures are artificial teeth held in place with the help of the remaining teeth via clasps or other precision attachments. Unlike a permanent dental bridge, partial dentures can be removed for cleaning and storage.
Custom made to match your remaining teeth perfectly, partial dentures are a great option when you need just a few teeth to complete your smile.
Just like natural teeth, your dentures require daily at-home care as well as regular professional cleanings. Even if you have no natural teeth remaining, you should still undergo regular exams so that your dentist can assess the fit of your dentures and your gum health.
Brushing with a denture brush and mild denture cleaner twice a day and after meals will remove plaque and tartar, preventing stains. At night, dentures should be removed and stored in a glass of dental cleanser or warm water.
Never store your dentures in hot water, as this can cause them to deform, compromising their fit.
If you need help selecting a denture brush or cleanser, please speak to your dentist for suggestions.
We recommend booking semi-annual appointments with us to ensure your dentures stay comfortable and continue to meet your needs. Depending on your oral needs and whether or not your jaw has shrunk, your dentures may need to be readjusted or relined.
